Just had the most wonderful trip in New Zealand.
Dom and I spent six days on a road trip from Auckland to Cape Reinga and back stopping some of the most beautiful spots in Northland, North of the North Island.
Abbey Caves, Whangarei
Abbey Caves Reserve is undeveloped and unguided. Please take care when visiting. The reserve comprises three caves (Organ Cave, Middle Cave and Ivy Cave), enclosed depressions and sinkholes.
We found the Glow Worms in the caves. They are larvae that glow in the dark giving the impression to stare at a starry sky at night!
Bay of Island
We briefly stop here to admire the beautiful scenery of the bay.
Haruru Falls, near Paiha
Rainbow Falls, Kerikeri
From the car park is a short 5 minutes hike to admire this impressive waterfall from different angles.
Karikari Peninsula
Beautiful spot surrounded by white sandy beaches. We spent the night in a batch by Rangiputa Beach.
Cape Reinga and 90 Mile Beach
Cape Reinga welcomed us with stunning views. Here is where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean in a spectacular dance of currents.
After spending sometime taking in the beauty of the land, we drove to 90 Mile beach. We had to drive on the Te Paki Stream through the Te Paki dunes before arriving on the actual beach.
